The statue of John Paul II

The statue of John Paul II

On 27 September 1989, the Sanctuary was elevated to the title of Minor Basilica by Pope John Paul II.

The people of Fiorano, mindful of the devotion of Pope John Paul II to the Virgin Mary, decided to dedicate the square in front of the Sanctuary to him, after restoring the forms and the paving.

The statue of the Pope watching and blessing the Sanctuary is located at the bottom of the square, opposite the Sanctuary.

The statue is made of molten bronze and was created by Studio Arte Poli of Verona. It was blessed by Monsignor Antonio Lanfranchi, bishop of Modena-Nonantola, on occasion of the beatification of the Pope on 1 May 2011.

The monument is outdoors and can be visited all year round.
